Irish stone walls, for sheep I think

Here's a picture of some stone walls in Inisheer on the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. I took it from this guy's Wikipedia page. Nice pic Wikidrone20000!

It kind of looks like whatever these walls were made to do, they're no longer doing it. Some of the pens or whatever you call them don't seem to close any more. Or maybe those are sheep to the left of the little house? Maybe they move them from pen to pen so they don't kill all the grass in any individual pen? I have so much to learn about keeping sheep in stone walls. I hope these walls are still being used, I bet it was a pain in the ass to make them.
